Seidel & Naumann was founded in 1868 by the entrepreneur Karl Robert Bruno Naumann in Koenigsbrueck. After the trader Erich Seidel invested in the company in 1869, his last name was added to the founder names in 1870. Despite his exit in 1876, Seidel’s name was preserved in the name of the company. Within a short time, the company grew to be the largest sewing machines- and typewriter producers of Germany.
In 1869, the businessman Emil Seidel invested 25,000 dollar in the company, which changed its name to "Seidel & Naumann" since 1870. Although Seidel left in1876 with a termination payment of a quarter of a million Reichsmark, the name remained in the company name. Throughout the history of the company, there were a number of changes in production priorities. In 1872, Naumann was the first in Germany to create sewing machines in the more modern Singer way and constantly kept improving them.
In 1883, Naumann acquired a construction site outside the densely built town and built a large factory in Hamburg street. Three years later, the company was transformed into a company, the "sewing machine factory and iron foundry, formerly Seidel & Naumann."
