Perfect Dogon carving in very dry and dense wood with only minor age cracks. Collected in situ in 1958, but certainly created many decades before.
Stylized female figure seated on a columnar support with tapering arms and legs, a narrow torso with protruding abdomen and a prominent navel. One hand resting on the belly, the other on the upperpart of the left leg. Four incised ornaments on the arms, the slightly forward tilting neck supporting an egg-shaped head with a tuft of hair on the crown. Bracket ears and an arrow-shaped nose between closely set bulging eyes. The mouth and the long rectangular grooved beard in one piece. Fine dark patina overall, encrusted in places. The figure radiates an air of contemplative introversion
