Jan Knikker Sr. (1889-1957) - signed H. Endlich - Boerenhofje met kippen

Beautiful original old wooden frame (with a light damage on the right middle). Oil on canvas. The work is signed on the lower left with H. Endlich, one of the pseudonyms of Jan Knikker Sr. (1889-1957). (Jan Knikker, Hillegom 1889-1957 The Hague. Jan Simon Knikker Sr belonged to the painters who had a loose brushwork and preferred the tone and atmospheric representation of nature continuing the work of the Haagse Impressionists in the 20th century. He is considered to be, just like his son Jan Knikker jr is, as a part of the ‘second blooming’ of the Hague School. Knikker Sr. mostly painted water views, landscapes and cityscapes. He lived and worked in Hillegom and Leiden and from 1914 in the Hague and Wassenaar. His work was very wanted internationally. Jan Knikker Sr. also used the pseudonyms Markestein and Welther) Origin unknown. In great condition, but the canvas does have some deep craquelure, but this seems deliberate and is certainly not disturbing. Will be sent by registered mail with PostNL.
