Jules Jürgensen was born in Le Locle (Switzerland) on 27 July 1808. When Jürgensen was 15 months old, his parents returned to Denmark. In Copenhagen, Jürgensen was trained in the watch company of his father and also studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. After the death of Urban, Jürgensen took over the factory with Louis Urban. Jules Jürgensen began a study trip to London, Paris, Geneva and Le Locle in 1834. In 1835, he opened a watch factory in Le Locle, a branch office of his father's shop in Copenhagen. In 1872, Jürgensen retired from the business and handed it over to his son Jules Frédéric Urban.
