Antoine Bouvard (1870-1955/56) - Venetië

Antoine Bouvard (1870-1955/56) was a French landscape painter who specialised in painting Venetian townscapes with canal scenes. He painted it in warm tones and often in setting sun. The artist is influenced by the work of the artist Felix Ziem. Antoine Bouvard was born in 1870 in St. Jean-de-Bournay in L'Isere, France and studied at the Academy of Beaux-Arts in Paris. He lived in Paris but often travelled to Venice to get inspiration for his works of art. He was the Director of the Architecture Advisory Centre and was responsible for the construction of the Bourse du Travail and the Boulevard Morland in Paris. His son Noel Bouvard followed in his footsteps and also became a painter in the style of his father. Senior Bouvard died in 1956. This painting is of private origin and may be lightly refreshed. The canvas has some older small restorations, given the stickers on the canvas at the back, but does not require further restoration. The canvas has a beautiful colour palette and shows the cityscape of Venice at the setting sun. The painting is signed on the bottom right.
