Daniel Defoe, his real name is "Daniel Foe", was an adventurer, merchant, political agent and English writer,
born around 1660 in Stoke Newington, died in April 1731 at Ropemaker's Alley, Moorfields. Robinson Crusoe is a novel written by Daniel Defoe and published in 1719. The story is very loosely based on Alexandre Selkirk's life. Written in the first person, the main plot of the novel takes place on a desert island where Robinson, after having been shipwrecked, lived for 28 years. During his stay, he met a "Negro" which he named Friday. The two companions will live together for several years before they can leave the island.
